Adelle Agnes D. Santos, CHA, CHIA

In 2004, I chose to join my parents in the United States of America. During that time, back in the Philippines, I owned and led a small-size Government Recognized Private School, River of Joy Learning Center and a local travel agency, The Cornerstone Tour Assistance, whose clientele were more from the government industry.
I was then introduced to management and success.

I never imaged that years later I would be a Certified Hotel Administrator.

So my journey begins - first lesson: Humility.  Oh…. it hurts to a “T”.  I was able to look deep into my heart and discovered that I swallowed a certain kind of pill - Human Ego.  Since I am not a fan of pain, I had to learn quickly.
Humility is not thinking less of yourself it is thinking of yourself less - C.S. Lewis.

To this day, I continue to hold on to God’s promise when I embraced and trusted His plan:
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
   Jeremiah 29:11

I rose from the ranks and I have Guests Inc to thank, for giving me the opportunity to serve Comfort Inn, Charlottesville, VA as a part-time front desk agent, Comfort Inn in Staunton, VA as a Front Office Manager and later on entrusted to be the General Manager.

I will never be who and where I am right now as a servant leader had they missed the mark of trusting me.

Lesson learned:  People need a clear goal and vision for them to perform well.  There is nothing like knowing where you are headed and have a clear focus on what good performance look like.

Heading 3

2005

Think Big!
Act Big!
  Be Big!
Norman Vincent Peale

2008

HVM LLC made me "Do What I Think" as I managed and led the 85-room Extended Stay America in Mount Laurel NJ and later on transferred to Virginia to oversee both the 106-room Homestead Studio Suites in Tysons Corner and 128-room in Merrifield VA as an Area Operations Manager.

BHMI handed me the 180-room Comfort Inn FedEx Field, in Capitol Heights,  MD, their gem; we soared and flew.

"Audible" - is a football term to alert the players to substitute new assignments for the ones they were prepared to perform.

Lesson Learned:  Respect, trust and taking responsibility to build a relationship in order to create a positive environment plays an important role in creating a team.

2009

There is nothing sweeter and perfect than to be with family - the place to be.  Family can be a source of stability and strength.  This is the year when I finally decided to move to Texas.

I had the honor to lead a team at the Best Western Fountainview in Houston TX.  I journeyed with them as we accomplished our goals as a team.

Servant leadership is more about character than style.  It is stepping back, looking at the big picture and making sure that important things are not being set aside by urgent needs of the moment.

2010

To quote Confucius, "Choose work you love and you will never have to work in your life."
Leadership.  Relationship.  Teamwork.
Everything rises and falls on leadership.
"1" is too small of a number to achieve greatness.   As stated from The Law of Significance in The 17 Indispensible Laws of Teamwork Maxwell, John C.

As President Lyndon said, "There are no problems we cannot solve together and very few we can solve by ourselves." Developing a team begins with "You."

There is nothing like being an instrument in developing others to reach their full potential and daily add value to them - which is the true essence of leadership.

Being a part of the Best Western Plus Austin Airport Inn and Suites in Austin TX  and playing a major role in the opening of Home2 Suites by Hilton Austin Airport under Waterloo Hospitality LLC and later on Friends Hospitality & Unity Hospitality showcase/d some valuable qualities of team players; being intentional in making every action count toward a long term goal, relational - every human contact gives you an opportunity to make a difference, selfless to the point of stooping for the sake of others - not withstanding who takes the credit and being tenacious at the same time resilient.

Everyday interactions and interruptions

is an opportunity to lead.

Adelle Agnes D. Santos is trained in managing the business side of operating hotels. She has supplemented this by becoming a Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) and getting a Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) from the American Hotel Lodging Association (AHLA). With a humble approach, she takes being a Certified Hotel Administrator very serious.
